Adam is a successful affiliate and we got in contact via the affiliate forum, PAL. He’s been in the industry a little longer than I have, but we are still both relative newcomers to the market. This article will give an aspiring affiliate a few great pointers into becoming successful via the form of a mentor who has been there and done that. Thanks for this, Adam. Great job!

Advice for New Affiliates: Get a Mentor and Use their Sub-Links!

My name’s Adam and I’ve been involved in affiliate marketing for around 1.5 years now.

My memories are still fresh (a bit too fresh!) from when I was a complete newbie and didn’t know how to install wordpress, how to buy a domain, what is SEO or how to make actual money from a website.

So having been there and done it all, I can tell you that an extremely important piece of advice that really helped me out all those years ago: Find a Good Affiliate Mentor!

I’m not going to write another article about the difficulties of new affiliates trying to establish themselves. That’s been done before. But what I’ve noticed many of these “help yourself” or “make money online” blogs have completely missed out is the importance that mentors and sub-affiliates play in the affiliate industry.

Advantages of Having a Mentor in Affiliating

The advantages of having a good mentor in affiliating is that they play a crucial role in helping you make your first site, plan your strategy, find the best programs to promote and get the best deals. In short, a mentor will reduce the amount of time it takes you to make your first $x,xxx/month profit.

When I say “good” mentor by the way, I’m not talking about a random person who has a blog or gives you a bunch of sub-affiliate links and you never see him again. Instead, I’m talking about someone who’s on Skype or MSN 24/7 to help you out, to answer any questions you have, to help get your site off the ground, maybe choose some themes or throw a few links your way…That sort of thing.

But it’s not just new affiliates that should find mentors important. Even experienced affiliates can gain huge help from experience affiliates in new niches.

For example, I’ve just moved into the Forex niche – a market that is notoriously competitive, complex and difficult to become established in.

My friend hooked me up with a super forex affiliate contact the other day, who’s been a massive help. After having a 15 minute phone conversation with him to explain who I am; he’s providing me with the by far the best deals in the industry (having been there for 7 years with his own team of xx employees), recommending which programs to promote, which national markets or keywords have the best customer value, etc…

And what do new affiliates have to pay for all of this service? Nothing. It’s absolutely free, all you have to do is sign up through someone’s sports betting or bingo sub-affiliate link (which doesn’t cost you anything).

Advantages of Being a Mentor Having Sub-Affiliates

There are a number of advantages to having sub-affiliates working under you.

First of all, every affiliate that signs up a promotes a program using your sub-affiliate link will earn you money (usually programs pay you 5% of your sub-affiliates earnings however this increases to 10% in a number of industries).

If you play the numbers game and sign up lets say 20 sub-affiliates then the chances are that at least one a few of them will be making $5-10k/month a few months or years down the road. This could mean that you’re making an extra $1-$2k per month additional passive income. And if you build a successful network of sub-affiliates then you could live off that income or build a forum out of those contacts.

Secondly, helping out new affiliates increases your contacts in the industry, makes you feel better, and you can use those close contacts to gain leverage with affiliate programs. If you’re regular referring affiliates to different programs then it’ll get you a lot more respect and credibility. There’s also a ton of money to be made in setting up super-affiliate programs. Launching a super-affiliate program would be a lot easier when you have a number of loyal sub-affiliate contacts.

Lastly, there’s the long-term investment and “I owe you on” mentality that you’ll get from helping other people. I don’t think any affiliate operates alone – everyone has their special skills, which are maximised when people share their knowledge, expertise and resources with each one another. By helping lots of sub-affiliates, you never know where they end up or how they’ll repay you. You’re basically getting loyalty for life in my opinion.

I literally sent an email to my original mentor the other day, asking for some more sub-links for my mobile betting site. FYI: I used to be his writer before he helped me set up my first website as a sub-affiliate. I also asked him for more sub-affiliate links for programs, so he’s going to continuously be making more money from me.

Anyway, that’s the end of this article. In conclusion, if you’re a new affiliate, and you’re hardworking, then try finding a mentor to help you out before you have a go at everything on your own.

One of my goals this month was to launch a new niche site, and I am happy to report that I have successfully hit this target with the launch of my Car Policy site. I basically got the domain some time again for a pretty cheap price, or at least I thought it was cheap. I guess only time will tell if it turns out to be profitable. The site is 100% adsense based at the minute, but plans are afoot to introduce some sort of affiliate deals in there.

I’m really happy with how it looks and reads. The information may not be ground breaking, but I think it still more than serves a purpose and is something I’m happy to put my name to. The content was completely outsourced as I know very little on the subject. I thought a good test would have been if I learnt anything from the outsourced work….and I did. So if nothing else, it’s helped me

The site took a little longer to get out than expected, was hoping to be writing this last week, but nevertheless it’s there and before the months end. I’m going to be looking to get another rolled out for October as well. Well, actually I have one sort of started so will be looking to get that finished.

I think it was my last post in which I spoke about getting my first RMP on Mobile Betting Guide and I’m delighted to report that things have continued to go well. Sign ups are increasing and with 5 in it’s first few weeks since it’s launch, I’m very, very happy. It really spurs me on that people are using the site and not only are signing up, but actually playing!!! Madness!! I guess I know the concept works on a certain scale, now I just need to increase the size of the site, but I know this will take time. I think last month I set a target of adding 20 pages to MBG of which I likely wont achieve due to costs of Car Policy being larger than expected.

Anyway, that’s about it for now, really just wanted to quickly speak about the Car Policy site and it’s launch. I’ll do a full re-cap at the end of teh month and talk about what I want to achieve in the run up to Christmas. Also have a guest post in the pipe line from MJ on Poker Affiliate Listings, so that should be a really nice read.

Laters!

The summer seems to have flown over, or at least what little summer we have had in the UK. Overall it’s been a pretty successful month or so, has August. I managed to finally get around to launching Mobile Betting Guide and even received my first Real Money Player through the doors which I am extremely happy with. To get even one so soon is a pretty big thing for me, and it certainly gives me the motivation to carry on. I don’t feel as happy as I thought I would however. I think once I get to maybe 10 or 20 players (hopefully in the not so distant future) then it will seem real. Just the one player could be a bit of a fluke, so I’m pretty wary of that. On the whole, I’m delighted though.

I’ve decided that each month I’m going to look to launch a new mini niche site. These will be pretty much completely outsourced, the content will be anyway and are just sites to get up, live, get traffic coming through and then leaving to grow with AdSense. Once they are live I’ll not have a lot to do with them for the first few months. I’m hoping that over the course of a year I’ll get a look to see what works and what doesn’t in the world of AdSense, and I think these little sites are a relatively cheap and hopefully profitable way of doing so. The first one should be live in the next week or two so I will report back here upon completion.

I do realise that the time invested into these mini sites shouldn’t take up too much of my time. I’m not looking for massive revenue from them, but if I can build a comprehensive network of sites all bringing in a little revenue each a month then it will leave me nicely spread should anything go drastically wrong with our friend, Mr.Google. I’m a person who likes change and new challenges, so I’m hoping this will keep everything nice and fresh whilst I concentrate on bigger sites such as Mobile Betting Guide. Either that or it’s going to be a really expensive way to keep me from getting bored!

In hopefully the not too distant future, a friend and I may be setting up a betting tips site. It’s still very early days and we are seeing if the venture is viable and profitable, but hopefully we can give it a run as I think it has massive potential and we will be applying concepts neither of us have used before in any of our sites. I’ll tell you more, when I know more.

As I mentioned August was a good month. The old bank account ticked over but I spent record amounts (for me) on outsourced work. This is something I am more than happy to do as it means whilst I am writing content for my clients, a percentage of that money is getting re-invested for my sites. Ideally all the content I write would be exclusively for my site, and it can be frustrating handing some of it over as sometimes I think, yeah that could work nicely or I wonder how many sign ups this page will get etc. It’s a short term fix for a long term project though so I’ll just keep plodding on until I can afford to knock it on the head completely.

September Goals

Generally I’m not the best at sticking to goals, but more often than not its because I get carried away and set lines which I simply cannot meet. So, here it goes…

Add minimum of 20 pages to Mobile Betting Guide

Double my RMP’s on MBG (to 2!)

Launch new niche site

Work on marketing for MBG

Stay busy with content writing for the whole month

Have a few days off

The last one I added because looking back I never really have a day off. There’s seldom a time that I’m in the house and not working. Even when I am out I am always checking up on things on my phone or whatever. Even if I’m out for the day playing cricket, I’ll be on my computer in the morning and then when I get back to clear up some lose ends. I read a good article about taking time off the other day, although I cant find the link, and I need to set my ‘downtime’ accordingly. Too many times I say oh I’m not going to work tonight and end up still pottering on with the PC without achieving anything. No work and no rest. So yeah, going to set aside a few proper days off.

Well I think that’s pretty much it for now. Will report back when I get my first niche site finished and uploaded.

The moment all you have been highly anticipating since my last blog post (well the three people that actually read my blog) is finally here. I am very proud to announce the arrival of Mobile Betting Guide. It’s a site that has taken me probably much longer than it should have to of got it to this point, but nevertheless I can finally get it out on the market and hopefully start earning.

It’s my first site that I have completed on my own and I own 100% of the rights too. If I’m honest I should have got this thing up and away a fair few months back but other work commitments have seen me put it on the back burner somewhat. I have high hopes for the site and whilst it only has about 30 pages online at the minute, I shall be looking to get many more added over the coming weeks and months with already another 100+ pages of keyword titles and content prepared for it.

The next step for the site is to get the link building ‘strategy’ up and running. This will be my first time doing so and I am really worried about making mistakes in case of getting penalised. From the (many) articles I have read on link building it appears that there are tons of ways to go about it. Since I am starting out I think a little of each wont set me too far wrong. Mistakes will almost defiantly happen with this site, but I hope I can learn, if nothing else but for future projects. A pretty common trend seems to be that of keeping them natural. So I’m thinking some sort of resources page which will help people out. I’m even quite happy to link to other mobile betting sites if they offer something that I don’t. If you want to be included on a resource page on the site or see your name on it in the future and want to get in touch with a possible exchange then please get in touch at jaskew9 [at] gmail [dot] com. If it’s a helpful site, then I’ll happily add it.

With the excitement of the launch also comes a few trepidations. Will it be a success? Does it seem spammy? Can I compete in this competitive market?

I’ve also been thinking about what I want from the site over say the next twelve months or so. Whilst I’m excited to see how it fairs, I’m also a pretty realistic person and I know it’s not going to be making me $1000 a week with a couple of months. In fact, I guess if it’s making me $1000 a month after 12 months I will be pretty pleased. Obviously I hope it does even better than that, but it will at least give me the confidence to know that I built something up and adapted my knowledge (albeit with the help from others to begin) to something that I now know how to build and make profitable. That is a pretty cool concept if you ask me!

I figure that if I stick at it and keep updating the site with new content I’ll at least put myself on the right tracks to making it work. Fingers crossed.

I mentioned in my last post about a ‘niche network’ of sites and I’ve been spending bits and bobs of time looking into things further in terms of keywords and possible affiliate sites/ income generating ideas for each. I’m defiantly going to outsource pretty much all the content for each site so it’s taken a fair bit of time to come up with a figure to get them all live and indexed. I have no problems with this, in fact it makes total sense as the list I have I know little about it, just that they will hopefully be decent niches.

I want to get the majority of the betting stuff uploaded to MBG which is around another 35-50 pages I think. Then I will likely let it sit for a while a see how that gets on. I’m hoping with the link building work I’m going to be putting in that it will give me a better idea of what works best when it comes to the niche network. Whilst that sits, I’ll try and get as much as the content uploaded as possible and get the niche sites up to a point where they are ready to launch. If I can get around 5 out of the 10 I currently have idea’s for live before Christmas then I will be very happy indeed.

Anyway, starting to ramble a little, so I will leave you with this…..Mobile Betting Guide – #1 For Mobile Betting!

I’m getting increasingly closer to launch date for my first ‘major’ betting site. It’s pretty exciting as I guess with any venture you never know how big or successful it can be. I have high hopes though. I’ve got a bunch of strong keyword pages written up with a shed more still to add. I’m just debating how many pages I want on before I do launch. I’m probably going to shoot for 30 then keep adding, hopefully until I reach the 150+ mark.

The only thing that concerns me with the site is the content. Will it convert? Will I get the traffic in with keyword structure and (limited) SEO information that I have. I spent a fair few hours researching strategies and keywords for articles to maximise my exposure, but I guess Google will decide if I am worthy of making a buck or two from this project. I’ll write a full blog post once it’s good to go.

My content writing has been going realllyyyyy well. I’m booked up for another month or two, which is something that shouldn’t be sniffed at I’ve learned. Whilst a month ago I was rejecting projects and turning work down, which made me feel ill haha, I’m going to be opening up slots for clients again as I now need to get, hopefully, the lead up Christmas fully booked. If I can secure that time by the end of September then I will be happy man and 2011 will definitely go down as a successful year.

I’ve spent a bit of time researching possible niche sites and have made a couple of domain acquisitions over the past weeks. Niche they certainly are with one being a car policy site and tother a perfume site!!! I obviously know jack about the subjects but have a few people lined up who can hopefully sort them out for me. I was just going to lump a load of adsense on these but after having a chat with a mate, I’m going to run with some affiliate lines as well.

These two sites are hopefully the start of a host of these smaller niche sites that can generate me some passive income. I’ve got general ideas for about 10-12 different smaller sites all going to be about 30 pages and then see which perform well. Unfortunately, as ever, I cant take full credit for this idea as it was something I spoke about with a good friend. In fact, it’s pretty much down to him why I am where I am….think I probably owe him a pint tbh.

Anyway……Things are moving along nicely. After August is out the way it signals the end of the cricket season, which means I will have a chunk of my life back again. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE cricket, but playing 9 games in 10 days is just too much when trying to establish a business. I’ve struggled a little with motivation as a result due to too many times just sacking off work I needed to get done to head off for a match.

I’ve spent a decent chunk of today looking over tax information and sorting self assessment stuff, before coming to the conclusion that I am far too lazy to be working all this stuff out and am going to get an accountant on the case. I figured even though it would cost me a chunk to get going, they are probably going to save me that in money that I can claim back, of which I would have little clue.

I love sites and blogs that post income reports on there of how people are doing and find them really motivating. Whilst I am not going to do anything like that on here, I would like to say that July was a good month for me and the best turnover the business has had since it was ‘established’. It’s still by no means mega bucks or anything like that, but it’s a start and feed’s my drinking habit! That’s all I aim for really, that I make more money than the month before. Whether that be £1 or £1000 if I can keep doing this then I must be doing something right, right?

The unstable nature of today’s poker economy is making many people think twice about what career path they want to pursue. Whilst I quit before all the ‘black friday’ ongoings, many are being forced to switch their means of income and turning to the online world as an alternative.

Mark is member at Poker Affiliate Listings and, similarly to me, has chosen to move into the development of websites as an alternative way to make money. Here is his story…

Why I Am Moving Away From Poker

Other than a tutoring job while in high school, online poker has been my only job. I am only 22, so it hasn’t been that long, but poker has supported me for over three years. I made a promise with myself that by the age of 24 I would make the majority of my income from something other than poker. That time is coming sooner than I expected.

Recently, the United States government has been cracking down on the online poker industry. After “Black Friday,” the day in April when the owners of the three largest online poker sites that served Americans were criminally indicted, the affected sites stopped serving American customers. This has left few poker rooms able to serve American players. The poker sites that remain are not of the highest quality, and there is no assurance that the remaining poker sites won’t stop serving the US market in the future. There are a number of options that would enable to me continue to play poker in one form or another, but I figure this is as good of time as any to end my dependence on the United States poker economy. I’m not quitting for good, but I haven’t played a hand since April. I only plan on playing enough in the future to remain up to date on the latest trends.

Since my poker career has enabled me to live freely and live well, I am strongly inclined to find a replacement that has similar benefits. I have decided to start building websites with the intention of this becoming my next career. The work at home lifestyle is hard to leave once you have been doing it for a while. I have gotten accustomed to waking up whenever I please, not needing to answer to anyone and working however much I please. I think that web development and online marketing might be an even better job than poker. Income in poker is directly correlated to time spent playing and nothing of value is being created. Telling a stranger that you build websites for a living will never make you look like a degenerate loser. Creating websites creates semi-passive income and value for society. If at some point in the future I decide to stop maintaining my websites, I can cash out on that value that I have created by selling my site to another webmaster. Being a webmaster is a much more varied task than specializing in one form of poker. Creating websites can involve researching and writing on any number of topics, taking pictures, writing code, graphic design, writing ad copy and a host of other tasks. In addition, building high quality websites will be a profitable venture for the foreseeable future. Playing poker for a living will only get harder as players and artificial intelligence improves. Online poker is also highly susceptible to pressures from government regulation that can negatively impact the profitability of the games, as I am seeing first hand from Black Friday.

This isn’t my first foray into web development. I made my first website when I was 12 years old. The color scheme was an assault to the senses and the entire site was devoted to information about cows. Even though this required no technical skill, as I made this with the Geocities WYSIWYG editor, it sparked my interest in building websites. Since then, I have made a variety of websites with varying motivations. I made some websites just to have a soapbox and others I made for the explicit purpose of making money. None of these were very successful.

This time around I am going to do this right. I have money saved up from poker, and have no obligations to prevent me from creating a network of successful websites. However, I can tell I have already made a few stumbles. I initially started making some websites that provided little value that couldn’t be had elsewhere on the Internet. I also have bought over thirty domains, when I really should be focusing on a few sites. My business plan is very simple. Create large websites with truly useful content and let any advertising revenue be an outgrowth of that. Currently, I am building websites in multiple niches with different goals for monetization. I figure that by trying a few different tactics I will gain a broader range of experience and be able to figure out what I am best at creating. My largest site, so far, is Online Poker for Beginners. It is only natural to leverage my poker knowledge in my new business. I am differentiating myself from the competition by combining advice based off of my own personal poker experiences with completely honest advice about poker rooms. I am ignoring the fact that less reputable skins sometimes offer higher commissions than the skins that I would personally play on. I promote rakeback (when applicable) because it is the best option for the player. The goal is to forgo some short term profits with the intent of acquiring long term goodwill from my visitors. I have yet to make a single dollar, so I know I have a long way to go, but I think that as long as I continue creating something of significant value, the money will follow.

At the minute I spend a lot of my time writing articles for websites/companies who pay for my skills. I’ve been doing this as a source of income for about 5-6 months now and have learnt a heck of a lot in that short time. I by no means claim to be an expert in writing content. But these are merely points that I think people who were/are in my position when I started out writing, can bear in mind to help them improve.

I do spend a fair amount of my time receiving content from writers that I hire for my personal websites. How it works is, I write for $.x amount per word and hire at a lower rate, meaning I earn money right away whilst still being able to put together quality websites of my own. People have asked me many a time, why don’t you charge X amount, then outsource the work for a lower price and just skim the profits. It’s something that I would feel totally uncomfortable with. I’ve spent many days, weeks and months building a solid reputation for my writing skills that I would be unwilling to jeopardise by outsourcing project I have been chosen to complete.

I’m probably going to write a follow up article to this at some point in how webmasters should treat their content writers. Having seen both sides of the coin as it were, I hope I can bring some points to note that you may not have considered.

The following are in no particular order….

Be Punctual – If you are lucky enough to have an order placed then try and set a time period of which you think it will take to write the articles…and stick to it. If you say you’re going to do something by a certain date and end up with the article(s) being late, then it’s going to look less than impressive to a client. Time is money in the online world, so stick to your deadlines.

Be Polite – I’ve always been brought up on the basis that ‘manners cost nothing’ and I like to think that it’s something I stick to, not just in business but everyday life. You may be working for a complete pain in the backside, but you simply must be polite, as at the end of the day, it’s these guys who are paying your bills.

Be honest – A lot of content writers tend to get overly greedy, and to a certain extent I can see why. There may be times where no one contacts you for weeks regarding work, then other time you get 3 or 4 orders in a day. It’s something you just have to deal with. If there are times when you have work and you are approached by another client, then simply explain what is going on and give them a date for the completion of their work. Webmasters would much rather you are honest with a realistic timeframe then them hassling you a few days down the line wondering where their content is.

Communicate with your client – There’s really no excuses these days to not be able to readily communicate with any client, be it through Skype, email or instant messengers. As a content writer I feel you should be as accommodating as possible when it comes to communication and be available through as many different sources as possible. It’s simply the worst for a webmaster to not be able to get in touch with their writers. Make it your job to suggest to them that if you want to chat further add me on Skype, heck give me a ring, whatever it takes to be as accommodating as possible.

Do good things and good thing will happen – As a writer I bend over backwards to try and meet a client’s needs. I often get asked to edit a small part of an article or add a section on a subject at the last minute. If it’s a small job that’s going take about 10 minutes of my time, then I just do it for free. If you can build a rapport with a client who knows that you’re willing to be flexible in an effort to get them the best possible content, then it’s highly likely that you will get repeat business. Building a reputation for doing the little things well will speak volumes for your service. Webmasters are a talkative bunch as well. A good review here and there can really set you in good stead.

Don’t plagiarise – Copying people’s content is just simply the low of the low. It happens, and will continue to happen, but if you are serious about your work and serious about creating a good image for yourself, then don’t plagiarise. If there’s something you don’t know or subjects that you are uncomfortable writing about, then explain this to your client. They will much, much rather know what your limits are as writer, rather than wasting both yours and their time trying to blag a few more quid by writing an article you know nothing about.

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of sports articles for a host of clients and whilst my knowledge of UK sports is of a high standard, I know next to nothing about the US based sports. I made sure that any potential future clients were fully aware of this and as a result I don’t have to spend my time researching sports that I know next to nothing about.

Offer advice – One of the main reasons someone comes to you wanting content is the fact that they know little or nothing about that subject matter. As a content writer, this can work one of two ways; you can either rip them off and they will be likely none the wiser or you can produce a quality article for them and follow up with some extra advice on the subject matter.(note- don’t take option one). It may turn out that they don’t take the advice from you, not to worry. They will however be delighted that you’ve taken the time to point them in the right direction of an unfamiliar subject matter. If you’re knowledgeable about your subject, then use it your advantage.

Meet clients needs – As a follow up to the above point, if they decide they want it set out in a certain way, then this is what you do. The client knows what’s best for their site, even if you think differently. If they want a long tail keyword whacked in the middle which doesn’t fit that well, then that’s what they are paying you for. It’s fine to offer suggestions, in fact, it’s recommended, however, they have the final say.

Improve as a writer – Many writers get to a certain point and are satisfied with earning 2 or 3c per word. And that’s fine for some. If you are wanting to earn the bigger money then it’s imperative that you spend time improving your writing skills. Over time they will naturally improve, but its doing that extra bit to improve your grammar, spelling, writing style or whatever it may be, that will allow you to charge the ‘big bucks’. I like to spend time looking at peoples articles who charge in the price bracket above myself. Look to see how the article is laid out, how it’s written and most importantly, how engaged you are in the article. If you take a little from each article, then eventually you will become a better writer for it (and richer!).

Proof read – It’s the most infuriating thing as a webmaster to receive content with spelling mistakes, poor grammar and misleading information. After every article you should spend time reading it through thoroughly before you deliver it. If a client can trust that the work you sent is ready to go live as they receive it, then it saves them so much time and will be much more likely to return to you for repeat business.

I’ve mentioned at the top of the article that I am by no means the best writer on the planet; however I spend a fair chunk of my time looking through at basic mistakes writers make time and time again. Some mistakes I made!

This article won’t make you a better writer as such, but it will hopefully give you a good base to go out and improve yourself to be the best you can be.

So it’s been pretty close to a million years since I last blogged. I had a load of old posts on here but decided to delete them and just leave the last few. The reason behind this is I wanted to start a fresh. I don’t know where I’m going to be going with this blog, but I guess I’ll just track what goes on and see from there. I’ll likely get bored and forget about it but hopefully I can make it stick for once.

Well, a lot has changed. I’ve packed in the poker now and am now working as a kind of webmaster/content writer/online guru…OK, not an online guru, but one day!! I’ve been doing so full time since around January 2011 and it’s one of the best life choices I’ve made up to now. Poker sucks these days and I’m just so glad to be out and away from it, especially with all the problems that are currently going on with FTP and Stars. Anyway, that’s the last about poker on this blog.

I really wish there was another title rather than ‘webmaster’. It just sounds so shit it makes me cringe.

One of the things I’m currently working on is that of a new betting site, targeted towards mobile sports betting and casino stuff. I’ve got a ton of good keyword article and a writer that I hope will be a good one, so hopefully will be going live with this soon. Although, I’ve been meaning to for about 2 months now and I guess this is one of the reasons for this blog, to try and motivate me to get work done, instead of starting and never finishing. I’ll post up the site when I get it finished.

The majority of my time is at the minute is outsourcing content work and recently I’ve gone into the much preferred route of sports betting content. It’s so much easier for me than poker (damm, said I wouldn’t talk about poker anymore…..this is the last time) as I think, although I played poker for I don’t know how many years, I simply know my sport so much better. What I’m going to start doing now is putting x% of my outsourced content earnings towards that of content for my website. You can get some quality workers for pretty cheap these days, of which I’ve just employed an Irish lad to do some sports betting content for my site. I’ll report back with how he gets on as content writers can be very hit and miss…..except me of course!

Something else I thought would be pretty neat is to blog about a few gambling tips I find along the way. Just a bit of fun but may be profitable, who knows!?

Well, I can’t think/be bothered to write anymore at the minute, so I’m off to catch up on this weeks episode of the apprentice. Take it easy!

So maybe somewhat unbelievably it’s October and we head into the final quarter of year. It’s the last chance to really set any targets for a VPP chase, and I’ve decided I’m going to shoot for 200k VPPs, which is around another 80k. It’ll be a ridiculously tough ask for me requiring 3 consecutive months of some high volume (for me anyway) poker. I think it’s going to be around 400-450k hands up until December 31st, so it’s going to be a real slog for me and even typing that amount makes my stomach turn somewhat but if i break down into a day to day routine then it’s not too bad! Overall i think it’s going to be wroth around $7-8k which will be a nice bonus at the end of the year…..IF I make it!!

I can’t remember If i mentioned in my last blog, and I’m too lazy to go check, but last week I signed up for a membership at Brancepeth Golf Club finally after a fair few weeks of debating where to go. After playing most days last week, I can safely say that even after all the rain we’ve had up here, the course is in great nick and I’m delighted with my, albeit very expensive, selection to go there.

The place is a world apart from the ‘steady’ courses we’ve been playing throughout the last couple of months and realisation kicked in after shooting a little embarrassing 101. This following rounds of 79,82 and 83 at mount oswlad! But I’m not disheartened at all, and if anything more determined to work on my game to try and improve. Some of the locals reckon you there’s 3-4 shot difference in handicap there compared to other courses around the county, which is a pretty big gap!

Next weekend there are 6 of us heading to Slayley Hall for a round and have gotten a fantastic deal. Basically for those that don’t know, Slayley is probably one, if not THE, best courses in the North regularly holding European Tour events and the Seniors Open. So to get a round, albeit in October, for £25 a head is a bargain in my eyes. Going to put a fair bit of work in this week on my game so I can hopefully be in the position to play at least reasonably well around such a great course….fingers crossed!

So yeah in recap I’ve got a tough final quarter coming up and I’ll be mega busy, which is good. Fingers crossed I can get there! That’s it for now, laters!

After hearing the continued delights about how soft PKR is, I decided to re-install and see what all the craic was about after it apparently had a ‘major’ software update. To my surprise I found a cheeky $95 on there and being the degen that I am decide to gamble it up. Now these spin ups NEVER end well for me and usually results in me going busto in sharpish fashion.

I’d seen that they have a new (well at least I’d never come across it on there before) sports betting site so in true gamblers anonymous fashion fired up a 5 way accumulator which included wins for Man U, Man City, Chelski, Inter Milan and I think the other was Juventus! Lol! Was good fun on Sunday, for once not being too hung over, sweating the games. Man U were cruising at 2-0 but decided to let Liverpool back in and tbh, I thought it was done at 2-2 with just 7 minutes left. Then because of Berbatovs amazing ability to somehow remember how to play football again, he struck his third and left me with my book still open. Juventus were 3-0 up at half time and City cruised to a 4-0 demolition of Blackpool.

Inter, on the other hand, were 1-0 down with about half an hour to go away from home to Palermo. My luck/skill/knowledge with accumulators is pretty shoddy and I thought i was going to fail (again) at the final hurdle. BUT NO!!! 2 goals in the second half secured the win, a cool pay day of over $1k and a fair amount of jizz in my pants! Happy days!!

What is unbelievably un-characteristic of me is that I even cashed the money out. I’ve had some pretty horrid experiences trying to cash out of PKR in the past however, so I’m counting the days as to when/if it hits my bank!

On the downside is that I’ve got the RROD on the xbox. I’d normally not be too fussed about this as I rarely play, but over the next few weeks there’s a couple of games coming out I’d quite fancy playing, so I need to send it back.

Golfing Wednesday so hoping for a good bit of weather for that. dont’t really mind it’s cold, but the rain and wind i really can’t be arsed with. Also been down the range to try and cure my slice a little and progress was made. Let’s hope it sticks!

Laters
